Insular beast brooch from Ireland

Large gold plated bronze brooch based on an unprovenanced early medieval "brooch", possibly from Islandbridge, which may have been a reliquary fitting. Set with vintage gold foil backed glass cabochons in the eyes and a baltic amber cabochon in the disc. Under the amber there is a thin disk of polished sterling silver foil to give the amber a shining effect.
