Pyracantha, also known as Golden Firethorn, is a genus of vigorous, compact, evergreen shrubs and includes seven species. It has thorny, upright branches, small, ovate, glossy, dark green leaves, and clusters of lovely, white flowers in summer. Flowers are followed by masses of attractive, yellow berries that create a spectacular display from late summer to winter. Golden Firethorn is adaptable to various types of soil, but prefers fertile, slightly alkaline, sandy, loamy, moist and well-drained soils. It thrives in full sun, but grows easily in partial shade.
