Woolly Mammoth Ivory Carved Christian Cross Pendant | Ice Age Treasures
What makes this cross different is what I chose not to carve. Where the figure of Christ would traditionally rest, I left the ivory untouched — a deliberate open space at the center of the cross. It reads immediately. You know exactly what belongs there, and the absence of it gives the piece a quiet reverence that a fully carved figure sometimes can’t. The ivory itself is genuine woolly mammoth fossil ivory, with its own natural grain, color, and mineralization built up over tens of thousands of years in the earth. Hand carved and finished with sterling silver components. One of one. This ivory was pulled from Alaskan ground by the Reeves family at The Boneyard Alaska in Fairbanks — people who have dedicated years to recovering Ice Age Megafauna material responsibly. The animals it came from walked the earth 12,000 to 40,000 years ago. Legally traded. No living animals involved.
