Aubrey Beardsley 'Seated Lady' Art Exhibition Poster
An Art Nouveau exhibition poster built around Aubrey Beardsley's Seated Lady, a seated female figure drawn in the pure black-and-white line that made him the defining graphic artist of the 1890s. Working in pen and Indian ink and drawing on Japanese woodblock prints, Beardsley set flat black against open white, and the harlequin roundel and sweeping gown carry the theatrical, grotesque charge he prized above all else. After Oscar Wilde, Beardsley was the central figure of British Aestheticism, illustrating Salomé and Le Morte D'Arthur and shaping The Yellow Book and The Savoy before his death in 1898 at twenty-five.
