Their gins portray landmarks and stories from the island and have a significant connection to the island and its community. The distillery was first established in 2019 by five ladies who came out of retirement to create something new and exciting on the island. After five years they passed the torch to Caroline and Struan Fraser who were both born and raised in Ayrshire and have years experience in the whisky industry. Gargowan No. 35 Gin is the official gin of Ayrshire Hospice, crafted in partnership with Isle of Cumbrae Distillers. Named after the historic villa which has been home to the Hospice since 1989, this gin celebrates the region’s rich heritage and community spirit. Gargowan No. 35 is infused with botanicals of rhubarb, raspberry, orange, and elderflower. In Celtic mythology, elderflower represents the cycle of life and death, and was therefore chosen to reflect the Hospice’s role in supporting individuals and families. The artwork is by digital artist, Martina Martin whose vivid, abstract work is based on the emotional impressions left by landscapes, seascapes, and shifting skies.
