A Tree You Already Know Walk through almost any park on Vancouver Island and you'll pass one. The Douglas fir adapts to wherever it's planted, short and scraggly on a windswept bluff, or towering 90 metres over the rural-urban landscape further inland. Crush its soft green needles in your palm and you'll catch a surprising note of grapefruit. For a few short weeks each year, we harvest the bright new tips and bring them into the blend, alongside nettle (a West Coast plant you learn to respect fast) and a beautifully crisp black tea base. One Hour, One Batch This is as small batch as it gets. One hour of hand harvesting and one hour of separating needle from stem yields roughly 100g of needles, enough for one micro (or, perhaps nano?) batch of finished tea. Typically available starting in July, the tea is available until the trees put their energy (and we put ours) elsewhere. Tasting Notes A light to medium bodied amber liquor with notes of resin, citrus, florals, and a surprising sweetness. It lingers softly on the palate and leaves you with a grounded, settled feeling. A lovely mid-morning weekend tea perfect for when you wish you were in the forest but are needed elsewhere. The Intention Some rituals ask you to slow down and step outside yourself.
