City Plate - Cairo

Situated at the center of three continents, Cairo, Egypt's largest city, is also the cultural center of the Middle East. The majestic Nile River runs dramatically through the middle of the plate design, while the vast desert sits just outside the city's border. The 1863 completion of the Suez Canal brought a large number of Westerners, along with significant investment. It also brought a re-imagining of the city's center, transforming Cairo into the modern megalopolis it is today.
