Composers's Note: Rituals provides a glimpse into two schools of ceremonial magic. The Left-Hand Path, made famous by figures like Aleister Crowley, focuses on bringing an individual’s will into worldly realization through rituals that are magically strengthened by breaking societal taboos and freeing one’s individual spirit therefrom. The Right-Hand Path, on the other hand,seeks to bring enlightenment and inner peace to individuals through ceremonies that place emphasis on shaping a community through the continued practice of a shared credo. Invoking elements of fiddling and lyricism respectively, Rituals was written for the diverse and admirable musicality of Eliot Heaton as part of Eliot's online caprice project.
