Shipping Information Every seed order includes FREE UPS GROUND shipping. If you’d like additional shipment security and faster transit times, a FedEx upgrade is available during checkout. Please note that lost seed shipments sent via UPS are not covered. Hoya seeds are living material and remain viable for only a limited period of time. While we carefully package and ship fresh seed, we cannot guarantee germination on seed packets that experience shipping delays, extended transit times, or are lost in the mail. If shipping speed and security are important to you, we highly recommend selecting the FedEx upgrade. This cross is between Hoya ‘Silver Dollar’ (MB1405-AG) and Hoya erythrina (Bacho), and this one feels a little different from some of the other crosses I’ve made. I chose Hoya ‘Silver Dollar’ as the seed parent because the foliage is already beautiful on its own. It has that gorgeous silver coloring, but under brighter light it can also take on pink tones, which makes it even more fun to grow. Then there are the flowers. The blooms are such a beautiful pink that I couldn’t help but think about what they could potentially bring into a cross. For the pollen parent, I used Hoya erythrina (Bacho). I absolutely love the ridges and texture on the leaves of this species. There’s just something about Hoya erythrina that makes me want to cross it with everything. If I had more opportunities to use it in my breeding, I absolutely would. What makes this cross extra exciting for me is that with some of my previous crosses, I was mainly thinking about the foliage. This time, I’m just as curious about the flowers. Will some of that pink from Hoya ‘Silver Dollar’ carry over? Will the flowers inherit any of the pubescence from Hoya erythrina? What happens to the foliage when you combine that silver and pink potential with those heavily ridged erythrina leaves? I have a lot of questions with this one, which is exactly why I wanted to make it. There are so many directions these seedlings could go, both in the leaves and the flowers, and I’m genuinely excited to see what starts showing up as they mature. Every seedling is a brand-new plant that has never existed before. Open Pollinated vs. Hand Pollinated Open Pollinated Seeds Open-pollinated seeds have an unknown pollen donor. While we know the seed parent, we don’t know which nearby plant contributed the pollen. This creates an element of mystery and often results in exciting surprises. Hand Pollinated Seeds Hand-pollinated seeds have both parents intentionally selected and documented. The goal is not to create exact copies of the parents, but to increase the likelihood that desirable traits may appear in the offspring. Neither method is better than the other. Open-pollinated seeds offer mystery and discovery, while hand-pollinated seeds provide a more intentional breeding direction. Both can produce extraordinary plants. What If You Grow Something Phenomenal? One of my favorite things about releasing seed is knowing that the next incredible Hoya might not be discovered in our greenhouse. It might be discovered in yours. If one of your seedlings grows into something truly special, here’s what I recommend: 1. Add Your Own Accession Number Take the UPT accession number assigned to this cross and add your own identifier to the end. For example: UPT2604-AM01 Many growers use their initials followed by a numbering system. This creates a permanent record showing that you were the grower who selected and developed that particular seedling. If it is ever shared, traded, propagated, or sold in the future, others can trace its history back to you. 2. Give It a Name Found something unique? Give it a name! For example: Hoya ‘Venice’ (UPT2604-AM01) Single quotation marks should be used for cultivars. 3. Share It With Us! (Optional) We would absolutely love to see what you grow. If one of your seedlings develops into something extraordinary, send us a photo! We’d be honored to feature it on our page and give proper credit to you as the grower. After all, one of the best parts of this hobby is celebrating each other’s successes. We get excited seeing what comes out of these crosses, and we’d love the opportunity to be excited right alongside you. MISSED OUT? No worries. Sign up for restock and if this has enough love, we’ll make more!
