The team captured three straight league championships from 1932–1934 — the latter two years also adding Dixie Series titles against the Texas League champion in the minor leagues. The franchise was sold and moved in 1960 shortly before the Southern Association itself folded. A revival Pelicans team played one season at the Superdome in 1977 before disappearing again.
