Team: Calgary Cannons Years Active: 1985–2002 Home: Foothills Stadium — Calgary, AB The Cannons gave Calgary eighteen seasons of minor league baseball, arriving in 1985 when the Pacific Coast League franchise relocated north from Salt Lake City. They took over from the Calgary Expos, a rookie-level club that had played the city since 1977, and moved into a renovated Foothills Stadium that would become one of the most distinctive parks in the league — a cold-weather ballpark with the Rocky Mountains on the horizon. Calgary saw a remarkable amount of talent come through. Edgar Martinez, Tino Martinez, Omar Vizquel, Jay Buhner, Harold Reynolds, Bret Boone, Danny Tartabull, Derrek Lee, Cliff Floyd, Tony Womack and Alex Rodriguez all wore the Cannons uniform on their way to long big-league careers. The run ended on September 2, 2002, when Calgary played its final game at Foothills against the Edmonton Trappers. The franchise moved to Albuquerque the following spring, closing out professional baseball's longest sustained stretch in the city.
