The Sourcing Table Six, Red
These are the wines we have on our wine racks, the wines we text our friends about. Spanning five countries and five grape varieties, from light and grippy Garnacha to punchy Xinomavro, this is a slice of what The Sourcing Table is about. Joan d'Anguera, Les Maiols, 2023, Catalunya, Spain This is a bit different from Joan d'Anguera's usual wines, which tend to have a fairly weighty palate and intense fruit profile. With ‘Les Maiols’, wine-making brothers Joan and Josep have made an ethereal style of Garnacha that reminds us of good Gamay. Perfumed, crunchy and beautifully floral this is made from the Anguera family’s younger vines. Ex Animo, ‘De Keur’ Grenache, 2023, Western Cape, South Africa Cranberry, rose, herbs and white pepper on the nose while the palate shows good fruit concentration with zesty acidity and fine, densely packed tannins. Nice weight and smoothness of texture, a slight earthy quality to the finish. Domaine Guion, Bourgueil 'Candide', 2022, Loire Valley, France From the Domaine’s younger vines, planted on a mix of limestone and clay soils, the Cuvée Candide is a bright, crunchy, refreshing take on Cabernet Franc, with fine, sandy tannins and a brush of dried Mediterranean herbs on the finish. Mastrojanni, Rosso di Montalcino DOC, 2023, Tuscany, Italy Bright ruby red, full of juicy cranberry and strawberry fruits, with leather, stony, and smoky notes on the finish. Balanced and complex, a beautiful Sangiovese. Markovitis Winery, Xinomavro, 2021, Naoussa, Greece Markovitis Winery is a legend in the world of Greek winemaking, being credited as the first winery in Greece to work organically in their vineyards. This is one of the best and most historic examples of Xinomavro produced in Naoussa. Ripe red fruit, sweet spices and Mediterranean herbs on the nose, a long spicy finish and balanced acidity. Rebel Rebel, Syrah, 2022, Western Cape, South Africa A classic expression of South African Syrah; dark and peppery, with juicy black fruit and black olives, sourced from a heritage vineyard on the slopes of the Bottelary Hills, Stellenbosch.
