September 20 Japanese Tea Ceremony with Niko

Participants will join us in our tea room to experience Chanoyu, the 500+ year old tradition or preparing ceremonial matcha. Niko has 6+ years of experience practicing and studying Omotesenke, one of the three main schools of the art. They will lead the guests onto the tatami mats and walk them through the progression of the ceremony. Although the practice is usually a meditative process, guests can choose the level of conversation they want. This offering is split into two groups: Group 1 will have a private experience before the shop opens, starting at 10:00am. Please come prepared to sit on tatami mats for up to 1 hour. Wear loose-fitting pants or skirts and clean socks. Strawberry daifuku will be served before the tea. The second groups will be staggered at 11:00am and 11:30 am. Wach guest will be served daifuku and matcha in a shorter form of chanoyu while the shop is open.
