Rizaliana for Children, annotated by Alfrredo Navarro Salanga and published in 1984, collects the folktales, Andersen translations, and pen sketches Jose Rizal made for the young. At its heart is his retelling of "The Monkey and the Tortoise," first printed in London in 1889 and held to be the first Filipino tale written for children.
