Join me on my inaugural photography workshop in the stunning region of Pembrokeshire, home to some of Britain’s most beautiful coastline. From jagged rock formations and dramatic sea stacks to white sand beaches, there is an incredible amount of variety. If that wasn’t enough, the area is packed with castles, burial chambers, and historical landmarks. Pembrokeshire stole my heart the very first time I visited, and I have been back many times since. Tucked away in far south-west Wales, it can feel like a bit of a journey to get to, but it is 100% worth the trip. It offers a wide variety of relatively easy locations, and I am always pleasantly surprised by how quiet it is. Having visited in both summer and winter, I’ve chosen winter for this workshop. Because many of Pembrokeshire’s most impressive coastal features sit on the south coast, they perfectly catch the winter sunrise and sunset light. While summer is lovely, this time of year will maximize our photographic opportunities. I have booked a very large house in Lamphey, placing us right in the heart of southern Pembrokeshire. This gives us quick access to the most impressive locations without too much driving. We may venture further out if time allows, but we certainly won’t run short on things to do. The house includes everything we need: two king rooms, one double room, and one twin room, which will be allocated on a first-come, first-served basis. All rooms are single occupancy. The property features plenty of parking, a large lounge, a fully equipped kitchen, a dining area, laundry facilities, a large garden, and Wi-Fi. Towels and linen are provided. There are two bathrooms, so please note that sharing is required—this is standard for self-catering properties and workshops of this style. Most of my workshops are self-catering because it provides the ultimate flexibility. We can be out whenever the weather and light look best, and head back to the cottage to relax if conditions turn poor. We won’t be restricted by strict hotel breakfast times or rushing back for dinner before a restaurant kitchen closes. However, because of the time of year, heading out for an evening meal is entirely feasible. Depending on your preference, you can cook for yourself (as most guests do), share group cooking, or head out to a local spot. A self-catering base also gives us a great communal area to relax, talk photography, or edit images together, while still ensuring you have a private room when you need to recharge. I run my workshops in a relaxed manner, focusing entirely on chasing the best light and conditions. I will give you a rough plan the night before, but we will remain adaptable. I’ll run the trip just as I would if I were shooting on my own, tracking the best weather. As a sunrise and sunset photographer, we will prioritize those hours if the weather complies—and thankfully, January offers very sociable sunrise and sunset times! If the weather blocks our golden hour shoots, we will spend the daytime exploring, as winter light can stay excellent throughout the day. A Glimpse of Our Potential Itinerary: Day 1: Meet and greet at 10:30 AM in Lamphey. We will catch up and discuss the week ahead, likely over a coffee. As we cannot check into our accommodation until the afternoon, we will leave your vehicles at the meeting point and head out in my car to start shooting. We’ll head to Broadhaven South to photograph Church Rock before heading to the Elegug Sea Stacks. From there, it’s a short walk to the Green Bridge of Wales—an iconic sea arch that catches the sunset light perfectly. Day 2: Church Door Cove, Carew Castle, and Marloes Sands. We will start with sunrise at Church Door Cove. It is a short walk from the car but involves a steep flight of steps down to the beach. This tucked-away cove, with its dramatic natural opening in the basalt cliffs, really shines at this time of year. Next, we will catch the morning light at Carew Castle, aiming for reflections on the tidal river. After a midday break, we will drive over to Marloes Sands—one of Pembrokeshire’s most rugged beaches—for sunset. Day 3: Sunrise at Broad Haven, Pentre Ifan during the day, and Freshwater West for sunset. We will revisit Broad Haven for sunrise to catch the tide in a different position, opening up entirely new compositions. Next, we’ll drive to Pentre Ifan, an impressive Neolithic burial chamber, before heading to Freshwater West for sunset, where the main attraction is the historic seaweed-drying hut. Day 4: This day is built in for flexibility, allowing us to explore new locations or revisit spots where we want another chance at the light. If we’ve had good conditions on the previous days, we will head to Strumble Head for sunset. It is a longer drive but well worth it to see the stunning clifftop lighthouse. While there, we can also explore the Garn Fawr hill fort. Day 5: Our final morning features a sunrise shoot before we head back to check out of the accommodation. From there, we will part ways, giving you the rest of the day to drive home. Depending on our successes earlier in the week, we may revisit a favorite spot or shoot sunrise at Carew Castle. *Please note: The Green Bridge of Wales and Elegug Sea Stacks are located on MOD land and are subject to military closures. These schedules are not published until December 2026, so they cannot be planned around in advance. I will do my best to work around any closures. The workshop starts on a Sunday to ensure we have weekend days available, as closures rarely occur on weekends. During downtime or challenging weather, we can dive into post-processing. I will gladly demonstrate my workflow, sharing tips and tricks to introduce you to new ways of enhancing your images. However, my priority will always be getting us out into the landscape at the best locations for the prevailing conditions. Upon booking, you will receive a confirmation email with all the essential details, including meeting points, a recommended kit list, exclusive equipment discount codes, and a pre-workshop questionnaire. This questionnaire helps me understand your photographic experience and goals so I can tailor the workshop to the group. Throughout the trip, I am happy to discuss any techniques you’d like to learn—from fundamentals like focusing and composition to advanced methods like exposure blending, focus stacking, and panoramic photography. I provide both tailored one-on-one guidance and group insights, depending on what helps everyone most. My aim is to tailor the experience to you. By the end of our five days together, I hope you will leave with stunning images, new skills, and a renewed passion for landscape photography. Afterward, I’ll send a follow-up email with useful resources, recommended apps, a location list, and links to my post-processing YouTube tutorials. I pride myself on being a friendly, approachable tutor, and I encourage you to stay in touch with any questions later on. You will also gain access to my exclusive Facebook client area to share your work and stay connected with fellow attendees. With a maximum group size of just four participants, you can be assured of plenty of individualized attention and 1-2-1 tuition throughout the workshop. I will be readily available to answer your questions, and my primary focus is ensuring you have an incredible time exploring and photographing the landscapes of Pembrokeshire. I have two sets of Kase Filters available for the group to borrow, along with an exclusive discount code provided upon booking. This is ideal if you are new to filters, want to try out magnetic systems, or are looking to switch gear. I also carry a variety of stepping rings to fit most lenses and will have spare tripods available for use. A non-refundable deposit of £400 is required to secure your place, with the remaining balance due no later than eight weeks before the workshop start date.
