The Tudor Submariner or "Snowflake" as its affectionately referred to by collectors was introduced in the late 60's with the ref. 7016/0 (no date) and 7021/0 (date). In the early 70s they were updated to the ref. 9401/0 (no date) and 9411/0 (quickset date). The nickname came from their distinctive squared indices and "Snowflake" like hour/seconds hands. This additional luminous material aided it in being a highly capable tool watch that we now know today has well-documented military use being issued to the French Marine Nationale and other countries' armed forces. Out of all the vintage tool watches the "Snowflake" is one of our absolute favorite choices for its distinctive design and special aura that nice examples can convey. This particular black 935X serial example, circa '81 is a "date" variant and remains in lovely vintage condition. The dial is excellent with attractive "buttermilk" colored tritium plots. The 5 o-clock plot has a touch of spotting but it is not distracting there is no notable wear under magnification. The case remains thick with even lugs and shows honest signs of use consistent with age and a correct signed crown. The bezel insert is aftermarket that we installed for a ghosted grey/blue look. The pip is service but matches well. We've included an authentic service insert in black to have another option. This example is a great option for anyone looking for the charm of a vintage "Snowflake" to use as a daily driver. A pressure test receipt from True Patina is included for added peace of mind.
