The Cloudberry Chalice is a chalice coral in the genus Echinophyllia, valued for its layered plating growth, bright contrasting eyes, and the mix of cool base tones with warm orange-to-yellow patterning that gives this strain its name. In a reef tank, it brings strong colour contrast without requiring the highest-light zones that many stony corals demand. This coral is best treated as a moderately easy Echinophyllia that rewards stable parameters and patient placement. Like many chalice corals, it tends to do best when introduced to the lower to middle areas of the aquarium, where it can settle under low to moderate light and moderate, indirect flow. Too much light too quickly can wash colour or stress tissue, while overly low flow can allow debris to collect on the coral’s surface. Why Reef Keepers Choose Cloudberry Chalice Distinctive chalice look with encrusting-to-plating growth Strong colour contrast that stands out under reef lighting Suitable for mixed reefs when given space from neighbouring corals A good fit for hobbyists looking to add an Echinophyllia without moving into extreme-care territory Care Overview Genus: Echinophyllia sp. Coral Type: LPS chalice coral Care Level: Moderate Lighting: Low to moderate Water Flow: Moderate, indirect flow Placement: Lower to middle areas of the tank Temperament: Aggressive to nearby corals if not given space Growth Form: Encrusting to plating Placement Tips Start your Cloudberry Chalice in a lower-light area and acclimate gradually. Chalices are often happiest when they receive enough movement to keep detritus from settling, but not so much direct flow that tissue is constantly pushed around. As the colony grows, give it room to expand outward and keep clearance from neighbouring corals, especially other LPS, since chalices can develop sweeper tentacles and sting nearby specimens. Feeding And Growth Like other chalice corals, Cloudberry Chalice gets much of its energy from light, but stable nutrients and occasional feeding can support fuller colour and steadier growth. Many reef keepers target feed chalices with fine particulate or meaty coral foods after lights dim, when feeding response is often strongest. Consistency matters more than heavy feeding.
