Yamaha FG-130 Nippon Gakki - Made in Japan

A really cool early MIJ Yamaha folk dreadnought with tons of vintage character and that unmistakable aged FG-series sound. These older Nippon Gakki Yamahas have developed a strong following over the years for good reason: they’re incredibly well-built, resonate beautifully after decades of aging, and have a warm, dry, woody tone that newer guitars often struggle to replicate. This one is in very good condition overall and plays wonderfully. The neck is straight, the action is comfortable, and the guitar has that lively “already broken-in” response that makes old acoustics so addictive to pick up. Tonally, this FG-130 delivers exactly what people look for in vintage Japanese acoustics: rich harmonics, excellent sustain, warm low end, dry mids and sweet clear trebles. It has a surprisingly full bass response for an older laminate dreadnought, with that slightly compressed “record-ready” vintage character these old Yamahas are famous for. These guitars also tend to open up beautifully with age, giving them a more resonant and responsive feel than many newer acoustics. One cosmetic point worth mentioning honestly: stickers were previously installed on the body and have recently been removed. Because of natural UV aging over the years, the finish underneath is currently lighter than the surrounding wood. This should continue blending in naturally over time as the guitar is exposed evenly again, but for now the discoloration remains visible.
