This finely carved architectural fragment once formed part of a traditional stone haveli in Rajasthan. Havelis were the grand residences of wealthy merchant families and nobility, celebrated for their elaborate craftsmanship and richly ornamented façades. Hand carved from sandstone, this striking piece features an intricate jali lattice enclosed within a classic Mughal arch, showcasing the refined geometric artistry associated with North Indian architecture. At the centre of the lattice is a small recessed niche which would originally have housed an oil lamp or devotional light. The deeply carved surface and layered architectural detailing create a strong sculptural presence, while the decorative borders and archway reflect the refined symmetry and craftsmanship of Mughal-inspired design. With its weathered surface and authentic age-related patina, this fragment makes a superb decorative wall piece, bringing a sense of historic Indian craftsmanship and architectural heritage into both traditional and contemporary interiors. Origin: Rajasthan, India Date: 19th Century Materials: Hand carved sandstone Features: Intricate jali lattice carving, Mughal arch form and central lamp niche Condition: Good antique condition with age-related wear, surface erosion and losses consistent with architectural use Dimensions: W37 x D16 x H43 cm
