2 piece Greenland Paddle Nanook2 BoneEdge bases on the shape and size of a traditional West-Greenland paddle. It has mild “shoulders” on transition from loom (shaft) to blades. Blade tips are round and as wide as the blade. Standard material is western red cedar (Thuja plicata) – lightweight and beautiful wood, which generally does not rot. Pine strips on the loom is East Pole's “trade-mark” which adds stiffness to our paddles. As a finish, the paddles are oiled with Tung oil. Wooden paddle treated with oil feels very natural and warm in your hands. Good grip is guaranteed, even when the paddle is wet. BONE EDGE looks like a real bone and almost strong as a bone. It is special mixture of epoxy and makes blades more resistant to wear and damages. GLOW absorbs radiant energy from sunlight ( or artificial lighting ) and convert it into longer wavelengths in the visible spectrum, thereby emitting it as light with the sensation of colours. Glow pigments will release light for up to 5-6 hours in darkness and “charge up” in 20-30 minutes. New Split System… … is oval carbon reinforced plastic paddle joint for Greenland paddles made by Kayak Sport. The ferrule is as short as possible to maintain more natural wooden paddle´s characteristics. Easy to use and maintain. Just push the button and you can split your paddle into two same size pieces (220cm paddle has 115cm pieces and 230cm has 120cm) Using our Greenland paddle is gentle to your muscles and joints and decreases fatigue. It is silent and you put less effort in each stroke. Bracing and rolling are easier than you ever thought they could be. READ THE PADDLE TEST by Christopher Crowhurst, qajaqrolls.com Style & shape: west Greenland, oval Material: western red cedar (Thuja plicata) Shaft: oval, pine reinforcement Finish: oil Split system: Oval carbon reinforced plastic made by Kayak Sport Lengths: 220 and 230cm Weight: 800-950g OVERALL LENGTH: There are two common ways to find out the optimal overall length of the paddle. 1. basic method: Stand straight on flat ground and raise one arm overhead. Measure from the ground to where your fingers would wrap over the top of the blade. 2. arm span + cubit: Stretch your hands to your sides and measure your armspan (from fingertip to fingertip). Then add the distance from your elbow to your fingertips (cubit). Although those two methods are slightly different, they often refer to quite similar paddle length. For any case you should also consider the width of your boat. If it is clearly wider than average sea kayak (50-60cm), then you should consider a paddle at least one size longer. *** CALL TO ENQUIRE ABOUT OUR PADDLES*** NOTICE: Every piece of wood is different. They come with different density, weight and colour. Weight of the standard paddle made of western red cedar is normally between 800 and 950 grams but most commonly between 850 and 900 grams. Also the colour of oiled paddles varies from very light red to very dark brown. So in matter of colour, photos of the paddle are more or less illustrative.
