Miscanthus sinensis Fire Dragon

Miscanthus sinensis 'Fire Dragon,' commonly known as Fire Dragon Maiden Grass or Maiden Grass, is a bold upright ornamental grass admired for its narrow green blades that develop brilliant fiery shades of orange, red, and burgundy in fall. In late summer to autumn, it produces airy, feathery plumes that emerge burgundy or silvery and gradually age to creamy tan, rising above the foliage and persisting for extended seasonal interest. Its dramatic vertical form and vivid autumn colour make it a standout in borders, modern landscapes, and large garden plantings. Miscanthus sinensis 'Fire Dragon' grows best in fertile, moist but well-drained soil and performs best in full sun, though it may tolerate light partial shade. It is relatively easy to grow, drought-tolerant once established, and benefits from cutting back old growth in late winter or early spring before new shoots emerge. Its upright clumping habit makes it useful as a specimen, screen, or structural accent in mixed borders, and the plumes and foliage are also valued in fresh and dried arrangements.
