White Burgundy - One of the World's Greatest Wines, Friday 5th June, 7pm- 9pm
Friday 5th June, 7pm- 9pm When we’re asked what our favourite white wine region is, it almost always comes down to Burgundy. After our recent Chablis tasting, we started thinking that the logical next step had to be a deeper look into White Burgundy itself — exploring some of the region’s best appellations and climats and also showing that there can (sometimes!) still be value found in Burgundy. Nick will take us well and truly down the White Burgundy rabbit hole with a tasting focused on some of the region’s most compelling wines — including a rare chance to try older vintage Meursault. White Burgundy has a reputation that’s hard to match in the wine world, and once you taste the wines side by side it’s easy to understand why. Chardonnay grown here can combine richness and power with freshness and precision in a way that very few wines can. The differences between villages are also fascinating. From the tension and minerality of Chablis to the deeper, more textured wines of the Côte de Beaune, White Burgundy is all about nuance, balance and character. We’ll also be looking at Aligoté, Burgundy’s much underrated second white grape variety. In the right hands it can produce wonderfully fresh, mineral wines with real character and value — and deserves far more attention than it often gets. One of the highlights of the evening will be a mature Meursault. With a bit of age, these wines take on an extra layer of complexity — nuts, butter, stone fruit and savoury notes — while still keeping the freshness that makes great Burgundy so drinkable. The tasting will be led by “Burgundy Nick”, whose knowledge and enthusiasm for the region will make for a brilliant evening. To finish, we’ll slow things down and serve artisinal cheese and charcuterie sharing boards alongside a glass of 2024 Domaine Paul et Marie Jacqueson Rully — the perfect end to an evening of discovery.
