2024, Domaine Y. Clerget, POMMARD, 1er Cru, 'Rugiens', Monopole
From a substantial holding of .90 ha that is situated in Rugiens Haut but touches Rugiens Bas.The 2024 Pommard Les Rugiens 1er Cru includes 20% whole bunch and 20% new oak. This has an attractive bouquet with irony red berry fruit. The palate is medium-bodied with fine tannins, fresh and vibrant, quite linear towards the finish but it builds nicely and retains fine grip on the finish. Perhaps one of Clerget's longer-term cuvées, this should be granted three or four years in barrel. Excellent. 92-94 Neal Martin.Thibaud opted for 20% whole bunch vinification and 20% new wood for the Pommard Rugiens. A fairly rich purple in colour. This too has some majesty. Fresh and crisp with raspberry and strawberry, surrounded by a firmer structure, this will take time for the fruit to emerge, but the quality is absolutely there. Drink from 2032-2038. **** 93-95 Jasper Morris MWOnce again there is a distinct floral component to the cool and airy red cherry, spice and wet stone-scented nose. There is slightly more volume and equally good minerality to the bigger-bodied flavours that conclude in a balanced, youthfully austere and impressively long finale. This does need to develop better depth but that should simple be a matter of exercising some patience. 90-93 Outstanding. Burghound.
