Coume del Mas Ad Astra Cairns

Astra Cairns is Coume del Mas's non-vintage cuvée. The Grenache Noir comes from plots by the sea in Collioure, and each year undergoes extended barrel aging before blending. The 2022, sunny, provides the fruit. The 2023 brings structure. The 2021 offers finesse and freshness. The nose opens on ripe black fruits, sweet spices and a touch of garrigue. The palate is full and round, with tannins softened by the barrel. The finish remains long and fresh, with a saline note that recalls the nearby sea. At the table, it pairs with herb-roasted lamb, daube, grilled duck breast or a platter of aged cheeses. It also holds its own with spicy cuisine, a tajine or a dish with peppers.
