Oribe Handmade Matcha Bowl – Keizan Kiln

Deep green glaze, a broad sweep of reddish brown and exposed cream-coloured clay give this handmade Oribe matcha bowl its distinctive presence. Horizontal ridges catch the glaze in darker bands, while the gently irregular rim gives the form a character that becomes more apparent as you turn it in your hands.Oribe Colour, Shaped by HandMade by Keizan Kiln in Toki, Gifu, this chawan belongs to the Mino pottery tradition. Its 彩織部 design brings contrasting areas of colour together on a compact, open form: glossy green across much of the bowl, a bold brown accent and pale clay visible beneath. The decoration follows the contours of the bowl, drawing attention to the relationship between surface and shape.A Bowl for Your Tea PracticeAt approximately 12 cm across and 7 cm high, the bowl offers an open space for preparing matcha and a form to hold with both hands. Its stated capacity is 380 ml; a serving of whisked matcha uses only part of that space, leaving room for the whisk to move. A wooden presentation box completes the piece, making it a considered gift for someone developing a tea practice or a collection of Japanese ceramics.About Keizan KilnKeizan Kiln (桂山窯) works in Toki, Gifu, in the Mino pottery region.
