1930s Bestlite BL1 Desk Lamp

Early Bestlite BL1 table lamp, dating from around 1930 and designed by Robert Dudley Best. The BL1 is a classic of British industrial design, with its simple, functional form influenced by the Bauhaus. The design was famously used by Winston Churchill on his desk in Whitehall. This example has a heavy stepped circular base with a brass support rod and adjustable swan-neck arm. The arm moves vertically along the rod and tilts using the original central tension clutch. A great early example, with plenty of character and still as practical today as it was when first designed. H 58cm up to 75cm D 21cm (at base)
