Columns of colour rise up a cream ground like a shelf of glass bottles caught in afternoon light — some tapering like flasks, some stacked in blocks, each one shifting colour as it climbs. Raspberry and cherry, cornflower and denim blue, marigold, orange, lilac and blush, some worked in a lovely heathered, tweedy pile. It is playful and joyful, and yet the generous cream ground holds it all in perfect balance, so it reads as composed rather than busy. There is no traditional motif here — this is a modern, abstract composition, closer to a still-life or a Paul Klee than to any Berber pattern. It brings colour and character to a room without a single hard edge or repeating line, the kind of piece that makes people smile before they know why. It is newly hand-knotted in 100% wool by the women artisans we work with in Morocco, hand-spun and hand-dyed using our traditional vat-dyeing process. Every one of those colours was mixed and dyed by hand, and the design drawn freehand at the loom — which is why it has a warmth and life no printed or machine-made rug can imitate.
