"Autumn Harbor" Man's Juban Underkimono

This listing is for an underkimono - called a "juban" in Japanese - which would be worn under a man's kimono. Learn more about this type of kimono below. Like pages from a vintage travel journal, this men’s underkimono layers richly detailed landscapes in muted gray, blue, brown, cream, and green with touches of gold. Overlapping folding-fan shapes frame scenic views of rocky shores, pine and maple trees, temple architecture, bridges, distant mountains, and boats crossing tranquil water. Fine gold accents highlight architectural and landscape details. The handwritten-style inscriptions appear to reference or accompany the pictured scenic views, rather than being a single continuous poem, while the entire garment is grounded by a delicate, irregular web-like linear pattern that gives the dark gray-brown silk added depth. Signs of age are present, including noticeable fading and color variation along the seams and fold lines, along with scattered areas of discoloration and gentle wear, see last photo(s). Juban often feature designs that reflect the interests of their owner but are rarely seen in public since they are layered underneath a kimono. Just an inch or two of the over-collar is visible, though you may catch a glimpse of the sleeve edge at the wrist. Juban make great casual robes. This kimono does not come with an obi/belt/sash, but we do make simple cotton sashes that can be added as an option when you order. We will choose a color that goes well with it.
