2022 Walla Walla Carmenere

The 2022 Walla Walla Carmenère brings Bartholomew back to where our story with Washington Carmenère began: the same block at Seven Hills Vineyard that first showed Bart what this little-known Bordeaux grape could become here. More aromatic and supple than our bolder Red Mountain expression, this single-vineyard Carmenère opens with fresh berries and spice before revealing layers of dark fruit, pepper, savory herbs and subtle oak. Medium tannins and balanced acidity carry the wine into a smooth, lingering finish. The fruit comes from vines more than 20 years old and was harvested at the last possible moment during the late 2022 vintage, giving the grape time to develop its full character. After 18 months in barrel with 30% new American oak and more than two years of bottle aging, it is beautifully integrated and ready to enjoy now, with the structure to continue developing in the cellar. A return to a treasured vineyard, a celebration of our Walla Walla home and another compelling expression of the grape that defines Bartholomew Winery.
