The Robinson Vineyard Pinot Noir is one of Moorooduc Estate's single-vineyard wines, sitting above the Estate range in the family's line-up. Moorooduc was established in 1982 by Richard and Jill McIntyre, among the early pioneers of the Mornington Peninsula, and today the winemaking is shared between Richard and his daughter Kate McIntyre MW. The fruit comes from the Robinson Vineyard at Tuerong, a few kilometres south of the McIntyre home block, owned by Hugh Robinson, Moorooduc's long-serving viticulturist. The Pinot Noir here is planted to the MV6, 667 and 777 clones, giving the wine a layered, site-specific expression of the peninsula's cool maritime climate. Richard McIntyre was one of the early champions of wild-yeast fermentation in Australia, and that philosophy runs through this wine. The fruit is hand-picked and destemmed, fermented with indigenous yeasts and matured in French oak used with a light touch, and the red wines are bottled unfined and unfiltered. Expect red cherry, raspberry and rose with an earthy, savoury line and fine tannins, built to reward time in the cellar. Vintages may vary.
