Room101 Johnny Tobacconaut Maduro Robusto (5" x 50)

Matt Booth has never been one to follow convention, but beneath Room101's eccentric personality lies a serious appreciation for well-blended tobacco. The Johnny Tobacconaut Maduro Robusto marks a darker chapter for a cigar that first appeared in 2015 and subsequently developed a loyal following. Introduced in 2026, this new expression is handcrafted by AJ Fernandez in Nicaragua, using a Nicaraguan Maduro wrapper over Nicaraguan binder and long-filler tobaccos. It's a distinctly different proposition from the original Connecticut-wrapped Johnny Tobacconaut. At 5" x 50, the Robusto gives the Maduro wrapper a prominent role without sacrificing the depth of its Nicaraguan core. The profile is earthy and rich, with espresso, dark cocoa and a measured peppery finish. Medium-to-full in character, the blend has considerably more weight than its Connecticut counterpart, yet retains enough balance to let the darker tobacco flavors develop without becoming overpowering. The Johnny Tobacconaut Maduro Robusto is a particularly good choice for smokers who enjoy the richness of Nicaraguan Maduro tobacco in a traditional format. The Robusto's proportions make it an appealing way to appreciate the interplay between wrapper and filler without committing to a larger cigar. If you enjoyed the original Johnny Tobacconaut, this Maduro is worth exploring. And if you're new to Room101, it's a fine introduction to the serious tobacco craftsmanship behind Matt Booth's unconventional creations.
