Hermès-signed | Mini Ados Sliding Travel Clock | Stainless Steel
An extremely rare example of a travel clock with a rolling shutter mechanism, double-signed by Jaeger-LeCoultre and Hermès. The dial features an extremely similar layout to the Reverso pieces, and is likely powered by a variant of the movement found in the Reverso wristwatches. This attractive Hermès clock is an especially small piece with an unusual case mechanism, and dates roughly to the 1960s. Already an extremely rare example because of its size, the case makes use of a rolling shutter that slides open and closed to reveal or protect the dial, an extremely tactile and satisfying action. The dial is remarkably similar to that found on a Jaeger-LeCoultre Reverso, bearing the same rectangular appearance with a railroad track on the outer section and a rectangular sub-dial at 6 o'clock. Rose gold applied indices and hands complete the refined design, a colour scheme that is in keeping with with Hermès' overall image as a purveyor of luxury goods. Furthermore, the dial is double-signed, with both Jaeger-LeCoultre and Hermès signatures, a testament to the symbiotic relationship between manufacture and retailer at this point in time. This clock is likely to be powered by a variant of the Jaeger-LeCoultre Reverso movement, given the signature on the dial and its design layout. This is especially rare and sets it apart from the typical travel clocks, entering the realm of fine watchmaking as the mechanics are on the same intricate level as a wristwatch. Notably, the piece is accompanied by its original Hermès leather pouch, in an attractive light brown with white stitching. It is clear that the stitching was done by hand, with neat yet slightly uneven stitching, and the leather is perfectly compact. While it may not seem entirely unusual, many of these techniques have been lost to time, and the quality is on an entirely different level with a piece like this. If sold within the United Kingdom, this Hermès travel clock will be subject to 20% VAT.
