Native American Feminine Crow Rock Medicine Bundle

Apsáalooke (Crow) rock medicine bundle, handcrafted from soft, earth-toned tanned leather, the pouch features deep vertical folds gathered at the neck and secured tightly with a matching leather thong tie. The flared, crown-like upper rim is delicately accented with fine glass seed beadwork along the edges, using alternating rows of dark blue and white beads. To the Crows, any particularly shaped rock or a fossil found on the surface of the earth was sacred, but only one appearing in a dream or a vision became “medicine”. Rock medicines are divided into male and female. Female “rocks” are egg-shaped pebbles, gatrolites or fosiilized ammonites. Male “rocks” are often fossilized section of baculites, an extinct shelled mollusk, or rocks with somewhat sharp, pointed edges.
