2023 Sancerre Monts Damnes Francois Cotat - Loire

From Chavignol in Sancerre, Loire, the 2023 François Cotat Monts Damnés is Sauvignon Blanc with serious swagger. The vineyard’s vertiginous slopes, shallow clay-limestone soils and Kimmeridgian chalk create a brilliant combination of richness, tension and saline minerality. Cotat farms around 4 hectares, with his famous Chavignol parcels – including Monts Damnés – forming a tiny, highly prized estate. The 2023 vintage was generous yet marked by a cooler finish, giving a fleshy, energetic wine rather than an overblown one. Expect exotic fruit, confit citrus, white flowers, struck flint and a creamy, mineral palate. Delicious with oysters, lobster, roast chicken, or Crottin de Chavignol.
