Deye 20kW Low Voltage Three Phase Hybrid Inverter SUN-20K-SG05LP3-AU-SM2 - CEC Approved
The Deye SUN-20K-SG05LP3-AU-SM2 is the largest inverter in the SG05LP3 range, with 20kW of three phase output running on affordable 48V batteries. This is the 20kW model. If 20kW is more than the site needs, there is also a 15kW version built on the same platform. Built for heavier three phase sites: up to 40,000W of panels, 350A of charge and discharge current, and two battery inputs so a large bank can be split across them. Clean Energy Council approved and backed by a 10 year Australian warranty. The top of the low voltage range 20kW across three phases, as much output as this range offers without paralleling a second unit. 350A of charge current Split across two battery inputs, so even a large bank refills inside a single good solar day. Takes 40,000W of panels Two trackers with two strings each, enough array for a commercial roof. Where this one fits 20kW suits a site with real three phase load behind it. A small commercial premises, a packing shed, a workshop running machinery through the day, or a large rural property with several buildings on the one supply. At this size most inverters push you toward a high voltage battery stack, which costs more and limits which brands you can use. This one runs on standard 48V modules, so a system at commercial scale can be built with storage that is easy to source and straightforward to expand later. Why it pays on a working site On most commercial sites the load is heaviest during daylight, which is exactly when the array is producing. Solar covers the site first, the surplus charges the battery, and only what is left after that is exported. The stored energy then carries the evening and overnight load, so less of what the site uses is bought back from the grid at retail rates. When the power goes out A 70A automatic transfer switch is built in, enough to keep a substantial part of the site running rather than a token backup circuit. It changes over on its own, with no one needing to be there. A dedicated 24A generator input is provided for longer outages, and a generator can run the site and charge the battery at the same time. Adding a second array The inverter can AC couple to micro inverters or to an existing grid tied system, so another array can go on a separate building without long DC runs back to the inverter. That is often the practical option on a site with several roofs. Approved for Australian sites Approved by the Clean Energy Council and built to AS/NZS 4777.2, so it can be signed off by your installer and counted toward government incentive schemes. IP65 rated for outdoor mounting. Smart meter or no meter: which do I need? To hold your exports under your network's limit and run the property from solar and battery first, the inverter has to see how much power is coming in from the grid and going back out. It takes that reading where the grid enters your switchboard. There are two ways to do it, and they do the same job. Without the meter: three current clamps (CTs), one for each phase, come in the box with the inverter. Your electrician fits them around the incoming grid cables in your switchboard and runs the leads back to the inverter. This suits most installs where the switchboard is close to the inverter. With the smart meter: this adds an Eastron energy meter that mounts in your switchboard and takes the reading instead, sending it to the inverter over a data cable. It is the usual choice when your switchboard is a long way from the inverter, so a clamp lead would have to run a long distance. Deye's own guidance on its larger three phase models is to use a meter once that run passes about 10 metres. On a fully off-grid system there is no grid connection to measure, so choose the option without the meter. Not sure which suits your site? Ask your installer where the inverter and switchboard will sit before you order. Main Features: The largest in the range. 20kW of three phase output, still on standard 48V battery modules. Two battery inputs. A commercial sized bank can be split across both rather than forced through one. 350A charge and discharge. A large bank refills inside one good solar day. 40,000W of panels. Across two trackers with two strings each, enough for a commercial roof. 70A backup passthrough. Keeps a substantial part of the site live through an outage. Generator ready. A 24A generator input, so a generator can carry the site and charge the battery. Parallel to 10 units. Run up to ten inverters together, on grid or off grid. Rated for outdoors. IP65 sealed and rated from -40C to +60C. To store energy you also need compatible 48V batteries, bought separately. 20kW is the largest in this range, so if the load is lighter the 15kW model may suit you better.
