Southern Song Dynasty Guan Ware Celadon Tea Bowl with Conical Hat Shaped
A celadon tea bowl fired in an Guan ware during the Southern Song dynasty. It has a shape that gradually widens from a small base. The shape resembles a conical hat worn on the head in China. This particular piece is a thin-clay, thin-glazed item from the Southern Song official kiln. The exposed foot is less than 1mm thick. The waist is slightly thicker, then thins again towards the rim. The celadon glaze, a beautiful grayish-blue, is applied even to the inside of the base, and there are distinct crackle-glazed throughout. The crackle-glazed vary in size depending on the location, which is due to subtle temperature differences within the kiln. It is lighter than it looks and very delicate, making it a very pleasant tea bowl to hold. There is a slight chip on the foot, but it is from an older period. It has good luster throughout and is in good condition.
