The Roland RE-501 Chorus Echo was the final and most advanced iteration of Roland’s tape echo designs, introduced in 1980 and intended for studio/on stage use. It featured improved electronics for lower noise, along with balanced inputs and outputs. In addition to the multi-head tape echo and spring reverb found in earlier models, the RE-501 includes a classic Roland/Boss BBD-based chorus circuit. The sound remains unmistakably analogue, but more late 70s early 80s than the 201/301 (think Gilmore/Pink Floyd The Wall and Andy Summers/Police) with distinctive modulation and crisp sound.
