How the Apex Actually Works The core of the gun is our Xtra-Reduced Pressure air cap — the component we spent the most time developing. Standard HVLP guns push high air volume at the cap to atomize paint. That works, but it demands a lot from your compressor and creates turbulence that can disturb metallic flake and cause dry spray at the edges of your fan. Our air cap reduces pressure at the point of atomization while maintaining fluid velocity.
