This is no small question! But it’s a worthwhile question to ask, because it’s true – the Bible tells us that everyone really is created in the image of God! To get a better understanding of what this means, we look to Jesus, who is the perfect example of imago dei – the image of God. Jesus shows us who God is through both his words and actions. He shows us what it means to value people and serve them out of unconditional love. We see Jesus showing dignity and compassion to both the powerless and the powerful, and humbling himself to be a servant of all. Paul tells Christ-followers in Colossians 3 to “Put on the character of Christ,” and to “clothe yourselves with love.” We too are made to be like Jesus and reflect God to the world. We’re made to share in the mission of God, using our gifts and creativity to care for those around us. And we’re not meant to do this alone – instead we are made for community and relationships with others. In fact, we’re invited to value other people above ourselves, just like Jesus did. This summer, students and their leaders will explore and experience what it means to be made in the image of God, as they serve and love communities together.
