2026 SAKURA DREAM | Asamiya Koshun Sencha
The 2026 harvest lands on Friday May 28! Discover a most wonderful green tea that is highly reminiscent of sakura... and yet is 100% tea. Sakura Dream is one of our most unique discoveries of the past few years! Pair this tea with mochi or butter cookies. You'll be happy that you did. Origin: Asamiya, Shiga, Japan | 34.9ºN 136.0ºE Grower: Kitada Reiko San is a super enthusiastic, young tea grower. A former member of Japan's self defense forces, Reiko San is now fully devoted to tea farming. Cultivar: Koshun (香駿) is originally from Shizuoka. It is known for being very fragrant. However, we have never encountered the cherry blossom aroma that Reiko San managed to express in this particular tea. Harvest: early May 2026 Why does this tea have the aroma of cherry leaves? (An educated hypothesis) This sweet, extremely attractive aroma is likely associated with coumarin-family phenylpropanoid compounds present in Reiko San's koushun leaves. She also performs a fantastic job expressing these natural aromas through lighter steaming, careful drying and finish firing.
