Marcelo Bengoechea is an Argentinian-American contemporary artist working in woven photography, a hand woven process pioneered by his late brother, internationally acclaimed photographer Fernando Bengoechea. Created entirely by hand from two identical archival prints cut into thin strips and woven back together, each piece transforms photography into a dimensional artwork rich in texture, depth, and movement. Differences in strip width, alignment and traces of the weaving touch are expected and desirable. Truly a one-of-a-kind artwork. Following Fernando’s tragic death in the 2004 tsunami,
Marcelo continued evolving the process while preserving their shared artistic vision. In 2019, he launched The Studio at Fernando Bengoechea to preserve and expand the legacy of Woven Photography through new renditions, exhibitions, collections and collaborations. A collaboration between brothers, one in Heaven and one on Earth as he likes to put it. Hand Woven Photograph Made from 2 identical museum quality Giclee prints. Photographed by Fernando Bengoechea (1965 - 2004) Dimensions: 40” x 32” Art, Framed to 48” x 40”.
