Smallmouth Bass (Micropterus dolomieu, Peoria strain ) are a popular freshwater game fish known for their strong fighting ability when fishing. They are also known as the bronzeback, brownie, bronze bass. These fish are primarily found in cool, clear ponds and lakes with rocky bottoms. They are bronze to brown in coloration with dark vertical bars. They have a mouth that does not extend past the eye. They are aggressive predators and strong fighters and often feed on crayfish, minnows, small frogs and insects. The common stocking recommendation is 100 fish per acre stocked. All bass are sold as an ornamental species for pond stocking. Bass fingerlings can range in size from 2" to 4". We measure from the tip of the nose to the tip of the tail and the fish can fall anywhere in the ordered size range. It is the buyers responsibility to check all restrictions in their state and county before ordering. These fish are ornamental species and not for human consumption.
