The Breakthrough

My new abstract painting: The Breakthrough The past four years as an artist haven’t been easy. If you’ve followed my journey, you’ll know that from the very few paintings I’ve produced during that time. This piece was born from frustration, pushing through self-doubt, imposter syndrome, and the immense pressure and expectations I’ve placed on myself as an artist. I intentionally leaned into a raw stone, like texture to reflect those feelings: something solid, something heavy, something that needed to be broken through. At one point, I genuinely believed this painting was finished for all the wrong reasons. I even thought it might be the piece that pushed me away from painting altogether. I was that close to believing my time as an artist had come to an end and that it was time to move on. Instead, I stepped away from it for a day, gave myself space to reset, and returned with a fresh perspective. Somehow, I found my way back to it and through it.
