Spend two nights beneath one of the most spectacular glaciers in the Yukon and Northern British Columbia. Explore wildflower-filled alpine valleys, watch the light change across the ice, and experience one of the most remarkable glacier landscapes within the vast UNESCO World Heritage mountain region. Tucked away in the remote Tatshenshini-Alsek region, Samuel Glacier is one of the most spectacular and accessible glacier landscapes in the North. Over four days, we'll journey deep into this incredible mountain wilderness, establish a basecamp beside the glacier, and spend a full day exploring the surrounding alpine terrain. After hiking into the glacier basin, we'll spend two nights beneath towering peaks and flowing ice. Our dedicated exploration day allows us to venture further into the landscape, with objectives chosen based on conditions and group ability. Depending on the day, we may explore glacial moraines, alpine meadows, nearby ridges, wildflower-filled slopes, or panoramic viewpoints overlooking the glacier. More than simply a backpacking trip, this is an opportunity to fully experience the glacier basin and the rugged mountain wilderness that surrounds it. With a full day dedicated to exploration, we'll have the flexibility to venture onto alpine ridges, explore glacial moraines, and discover viewpoints that most visitors never reach. Along the way, we'll travel through one of the most beautiful mountain corridors in the North, following the Haines Highway past turquoise lakes, broad valleys, and dramatic mountain scenery before reaching the trailhead. If you've been dreaming about a true glacier backpacking adventure without committing to a major expedition, this trip offers the perfect balance of challenge, exploration, and wilderness immersion.
