Style and Design: Medallion and all over floral layout classic Serapi/Heriz composition with a central medallion and bold angular botanical motifs filling the field. The border system is well developed with multiple guard borders and a main border featuring large floral cartouches. Color Dominate slate/ powder blue field which is less common and more desirable. The rug also contains colors of burnt orange, terracotta and ivory accents. The palette suggests natural or vegetal dyes which are associated with higher quality Afghan production. The rug has some wear and is between 20-40years old and appears to be handwoven wool on cotton foundation. The fringed ends and slight irregularity confirm hand made construction.
