About this Little Brown Dog release Little Brown Dog are big advocats for Calvados, a spirit that deserves far more attention. And this Blablair is the first of their Calvados cask finished whiskies, although technically it’s an ex-white port then calvados cask finish. Sometimes disasters happen in whisky. The two 250L casks of Balblair that fitted into a small calvados cask are an example of one of these disasters. They should not have fitted, but they did, with room to spare. The angels’ share was savage. Luckily, this is a tasty disaster. A little over 18 months in the calvados cask has wonderfully elevated the spirit. It’s got that extra hit of bright green apples and a champagne-like finish. Andrew and Chris decided to use the calvados cask for a finish as they thought it would pair well with the fruity clear wart, long-fermented Balblair distillate. Uncommon distillery, with an uncommon cask finish, from a special cask that Andrew and Chris brought back from Normandy ourselves, there’s a lot of Little Brown Dog’s heart in this one.
