Modular Knitting Basics: Modular Bento Bag Teacher: Shana Cohen Cost: $70 When: Thursday, July 30, 2:00–5:00pm Description: A cute and colorful knitted bag to hold your crafting? To hold your apricots? To hold a wee present for a loved one? Why not?? You could, for example, fit quite a few Polly Pockets in one of these bags (or a book, or some Jolly Ranchers, or a Doodle Deck, or . . . ). In this workshop with designer Shana Cohen of Shanalines Designs, you’ll learn everything you need to know to make an adorable and highly functional bento bag. As a bonus, please note that this is one of those projects whose construction holds some satisfying surprises: an aha moment lies in store for you! Prerequisites: Students must be comfortable with garter stitch, slipping stitches, pattern reading, and working a crochet provisional cast-on in order to complete the homework. In addition, you should have experience picking up stitches at the edge of knitted fabric. Homework: You will need to knit the first square (smallest size) prior to class, as described in the pattern. Min/max number of participants: 4/10 Materials to bring along: Approximately 40g worsted weight cotton, preferably in 2 or more colors, purchased from Spun (we suggest Berroco Pima 100) US6 circular knitting needle, 16" Smooth waste yarn in contrast color for provisional cast on USG crochet hook for provisional cast on Spare tubing, waste yarn, or needle holder to hold live stitches Locking stitch markers (minimum 3) Tapestry needle Scissors Tape measure A digital or printed copy of the “Modular Bento Bag” pattern by Shanalines Designs (available to purchase on Ravelry here)
