Jat dhaneta is practiced by the Jat fakiraani and dhanethah communities of the Kutch region of Gujarat. Only two stitches are used to create the geometric and abstract motifs that comprise this style: the open chain stitch builds the grid, and the satin stitch in radiating patterns fills in the grid. The combination of these two stitches rendered on thick, coarse , cotton-base fabric produces the denseness that is characteristic of this style. Craftswomen offset the denseness by using mirrors and rendering this style only on small surface areas. In doing so, they demonstrate that embroidery is not just about skill but also about an aesthetic sensibility and that they possess both in good measure. Measuring 8.5″ x 8″, it's a compact yet striking accessory. Dry clean only to preserve the intricate handiwork and vibrant colors.
