Red Maple, Acer rubrum Red maple is a widely adaptable, large tree common to the woods of eastern North America. A red tinge can be found in its flowers, twigs, and seeds, but it is most notable for the scarlet of its leaves in fall. Red maple needs plenty of room for its dense, spreading root system. Mature height can reach 40-60 feet. Can tolerate all light exposures and prefers well-drained, acidic soils. Zones 3-9. NOTE: Trees arrive in bundles of 25 seedlings that are approx. 12-18 inches tall. Trees are NOT full-sized upon pick-up. Photos show full-sized examples of the species.
