Raku Firing for Class Members Only Wednesday 7th October and 25th November 1-3pm

This firing workshop will enable you to start with the basic skills of Raku in the outside kiln. You are able to make 1-3 Raku clay pieces in your usual class prior to the firing with specialist raku clay. Up to 4lbs of clay per person. Maximum Height 30cms and width 18cms of pieces as the Raku kiln is smaller than the electric kilns. This needs to be bisque fired in the 2 weeks before the raku firing. You will be guided through the process of decorating with raku glazes and firing in the kiln with your tutors Joy and Jack. With expert tuition you will be given demonstrations and careful explanations of the different stages of decoration, firing, cooling and quenching. The experience runs for 3 hours approx and is outside so warm clothes are advisable.
